trx/suspension training- what to know:
TRX is a form of Suspension Training
- TRX training is a form of suspension training. The TRX's have foot loops unlike some other suspension trainers such as the rings. However, other than the foot loops they operate pretty much the same way.
Is Similar to Dumbbells
- Offers a resistance similar to dumbbells. Dumbbells are the most free of the resistance training regimens because they can move any direction. Similarly of suspension training they too can move any direction. That does not mean they will feel the same as free weights as other things play a role i.e. angle of the body, placement of stress etc. It does mean however that support muscles become involved like the dumbbell as it is those muscles that keep the body stable while the prime mover performs the intended exercise.
Inexpensive
- Suspension trainers are relatively inexpensive. Likely you can find a new set for $90-$200.
Great for New and Advanced Participants
- Suspension trainers are sometimes criticized as not being challenging enough for advanced participants and are compared to body weight exercise. Firstly, body weight exercises can be made more challenging even for the advanced participant and secondly, you can advance suspension training even further by using a weighted vest. Some vests you can add upward of 200lbs.
